Ruth Levin immigrated to Israel in 1972. She is a leading Israeli vocalist of Jewish music. Ms. Levin is the daughter of Leibu Levin, a well-known Yiddish
composer and actor, with whom she performed in stage theater and concerts from a young age.
Since 1987 Ruth Levin has performed in concerts and festivals throughout Europe and the US on some of the world’s most prominent stages, as well as
in recordings. Her programs consist mostly of Yiddish songs, many of which are written to the finest Yiddish poetry. A great part of her repertoire
is chamber music written by her father. Among her dramatic roles were Mirele in Itzik Manger’s “Hotsmach shpil” directed by Benjamin Zemach, the role
of Ester’ke in Itzik Manger’s “Di Megile” directed by Shmuel Bunim, and others.
Ruth Levin is recipient of the Segal Prize for Yiddish culture. Audience and critics view Ruth Levin not only as a highly talented artist, but also
as someone who perpetuates the rich musical traditions of Yiddish culture.
